"And I was compelled to disclose that it was because I testified at McCullough's trial," Doe says in his lawsuit. Among the defendants named in the legal action are a police investigator and prosecutor who played prominent roles in McCullough's trial. Ex-prosecutor Julie Trevarthen handled witnesses in McCullough's case. She also may have a strong bias: One of the first things Schmack did upon assuming office was to fire Trevarthen and her co-counsel in the McCullough case, Victor Escarcida. The conviction in the 1957 case was overturned earlier this year, and the man Doe testified against in 2012 was set free.
