It is unusual to see the temperature and the price of natural gas plunge in unison in January, but a cold snap couldn’t keep the main U.S. benchmark from going below a key psychological level. The price slump could worsen and last at least into the summer. Futures prices were around $1.91 per million British thermal units Tuesday morning—their first dip below $2.00/MMBtu since the spring of 2016.
