EDMONTON — Report from the Alberta election battle zone, 10 days in: It still feels as though two completely separate wars are being fought here. One-two, one-two: attack Jason Kenney, announce a new program. After the election was called March 19, the shower of rotten vegetables began, as the Alberta NDP website’s headlines show. “Even conservatives don’t trust Jason Kenney.” “Jason Kenney wants an economy that only works for the rich.” “Jason Kenney says he’s changed, but actions speak louder than words.” “Jason Kenney’s Plan Hurts Young Workers.” “Jason Kenney thinks childcare is a problem.” Each of these items is illustrated with a black-and-white photo of the dread Kenney looking like an angry baby. Either way it is probably not the issue Jason Kenney wanted everyone to be talking about — except perhaps in communities that the UCP would win by 50 points anyhow.
