Stratas is hearing an appeal by the federal justice department of last year’s Federal Court trial division ruling in the case of Kattenburg v. Canada. Under international law, Kattenburg argues, the West Bank is not part of Israel, and he thought the CFIA should outlaw the label as being misleading. The federal government, preferring to avoid possible trouble with Israel, appealed Mactavish’s decision, and that puts us where we are now.
