On Tuesday night, Stephen Colbert staged a “Twitter-vention” for President Trump, following reports that White House aides wanted to stage an “intervention” to encourage Trump to stop using Twitter. “Dear President Trump,” said Colbert, “your Tweeting has affected me in the following ways: my ratings are up.”Colbert was joking, but not really. Ratings of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” have soared since Trump’s inauguration in January. Ratings are so strong, in fact, that Colbert will finish the 2016-2017 season as the most-watched late-night talk show host on television, narrowly beating Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show.”Colbert’s ratings success is remarkable. “I didn’t do it to humanize [Trump],” Fallon later said, expressing some regret.
