Coffee may protect your liver, new study suggests

Increasing coffee intake may protect your liver and help prevent liver-related deaths, according to a recent report published in Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics. A group of researchers in Australia looked at data from previous studies involving coffee and liver disease and found that drinking more than two cups of coffee a day may help protect against deaths related to liver disease. “The mechanism by which coffee offers protection from liver disease has not been clearly demonstrated, but it appears that caffeine is not the protective chemical. Of the many compounds in coffee, diterpenes and chlorogenic acids are the most studied in liver disease," the study authors stated. That said, the Australian research team said further research is needed to confirm the benefits of coffee on liver‐related mortality.
