Moments before the recording devices placed in front of the former All-Ireland-winning football manager were switched on, Gilroy allowed himself to smile. “Right lads, round two,” he said, addressing the print media. The second-half might have been a better description because it is just over five years since Gilroy left the one and only inter-county management position he ever held, the Dublin football gig. He walked away with an impressive reputation too, as the man who, in 2011, ended 16 years of hurt by leading Dublin to an All-Ireland.
