General News of Wednesday, 14 January 2026Source: otecfmghana.comThe Ghana National Cocoa Farmers Association (GNACOFA) is warning of a nationwide demonstration if the government fails to address their pressing concerns. The association is demanding urgent reforms to improve the welfare and safety of cocoa farmers, including the introduction of a pension scheme, improved health insurance, and quality healthcare. "Cocoa farmers currently don't have adequate social protection," said Mr. Stephenson Anane Boateng, National President of GNACOFA. "We are calling on the government to establish a pension scheme, expand and strengthen health insurance coverage, and provide quality healthcare for cocoa farmers." A pension scheme for cocoa farmers has been in discussion for years, with COCOBOD launching a pilot program in three districts in 2024.
