Not since June 29, 2010, when Toy Story 3 briefly sat atop the PRC rankings, has a Pixar film won even a single day in China. And on Sunday Pixar didn’t just win the day with its $8.8 million in daily collections, it overcame a 50 percent Friday deficit vis a vis Justice League and clobbered the Warner Bros / DC (NYSE:TWX) film to win the weekend too. When the dust settled Coco wound up collecting 13 percent more in box office coin than Justice League this weekend, with $17.89 million versus $15.8 million for the superhero flick. The idea that Coco, a Pixar animated film, would play spoiler to that modest ambition seemed ludicrous. Justice League, it seemed, would at least be able to finish out its run without worries.
