Sonar technology is being used to track down the black box recorder of the Rescue 116 helicopter which, they hope, will lead them to the wreckage. A signal from the black box, which transmits for 30 days, was detected near Blackrock Lighthouse, about eight miles off Blacksod. The search had been impeded by heavy swells, which prevented rescue boats from approaching the suspected crash site.
