Regular VHF broadcast of weather warning is being undertaken by Coast Guard through Remote Operating Station, Mangaluru and Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ships at sea.All ICG ships at harbour are kept at short notice for possible Search and Rescue (SAR) operation. MANGALURU: A well marked low pressure area is being formed over equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining South-West Bay of Bengal. Port authorities have been requested not to allow dhows to venture into sea and also to initiate necessary safety precautions for vessels at anchorage.The assistance from Indian Coast Guard can be sought round the clock on toll free number: 1554. Under its influence, the sea conditions are likely to deteriorate.Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC), Mangaluru functioning under Coast Guard Karnataka HQ, has requested all deputy commissioners of coastal districts, fisheries department, ports, CSP, Customs to disseminate the weather warning to all coastal population including fishermen. In case of distress, the GPS position, type of emergency, photograph of vessel and number of crew should intimated for timely assistance.
