Closure of iconic puppet theatre felt ‘like daddy had just died all over again’

The Lambert Puppet Theatre was founded in 1972 by the puppeteer Eugene Lambert, with his wife Mai. “This has been a very emotional day,” Paula told the Irish Examiner. “The puppet theatre was my parents Eugene and Mai’s dream, and they fulfilled it, but it’s very sad to see it go. I don’t think Ireland will ever again have a national puppet theatre. Liam Lambert told RTÉ that while the theatre premises will be sold, it is his hope the business will continue as a touring theatre troupe.
