Ottawa-Global food insecurity is being worsened by damaging weather events caused by climate change, says Margaret Zafiriou, Research Associate with the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute (CAPI). Sustainable agriculture productivity growth is key to both addressing climate change and global food security concerns in the future, she said. Climate change impacts agriculture through rising temperatures and variable precipitation resulting in lower global crop yields and harvested area. Environment Canada’s Top Ten Weather Stories reported a record number of extreme weather events in 2021.
