This Monday, November 11, 2024 marked the first day of the United Nations Climate Change Conference. This is also known as the 29th Conference of Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, or COP29. Small island states, those being affected most by climate change, are looking for financial aid from the larger polluters. The Paris Agreement: The conference will serve as an opportunity for countries to present their national climate action plans under the Paris Agreement, which are due by February, 2025. The reelection of Donald Trump, who has even questioned the accuracy of anthropogenic climate change, has cast a dark shadow over the COP29 talks.
