Heard of branded versus generic drugs? In 2015, the Health Ministry announced a more effective measure of managing their budget by sourcing for more generic drugs for government hospitals and clinics. And according to a recent study by the Health Ministry, out of 244 types of medications, the prices for 131 have gone down. Another example, the Health Ministry has also switched to generic medicine for Hepatitis C and this measure saves about RM49,500 in medication costs per patient. On a bigger picture, the Health Ministry has also actually seen an increase in its Budget.
