A Catholic priest in Bomet County has cautioned the country to be vigilant over controversial political utterances from leaders. Ambrose Malel of Segemik parish in Bomet County, while reacting to recent utterances by Kiambu governor William Kabogo that Central region will not automatically back up deputy president William Ruto for presidency in 2022 , should not be taken for granted. More people are yet to resettle comfortably after the incident and the two leaders said much needs to be done by the government and political leaders to bring back trust among communities in the country and in the run-up to the next general elections. “Jubilee administration should not take for granted what Kabogo said and engage in constructive reconciliation efforts in Rift Valley and other regions of the country and avoid differences that may arise from such utterances by leaders.” He admonished. Meanwhile, United Pentecostal Church Bishop Geoffrey Yegon reiterated Malel’s sentiments and said that Jubilee should work wisely to avert violence akin those witnessed in 2007 after that year’s general election that led to deaths of over 1,200 people and over 600,000 more displaced from their homes.
