The Washington area has become extremely dry — and in many cases, too dry. In fact, the driest part of the entire state appears to be in the Washington area. Much of Fairfax, Prince William and Loudoun counties are classed in the severe drought category. We have had some precipitation, but in Washington, the amount has fallen below 60 percent of normal levels. Firefighters contended with one Sunday along Route 301 in the Bowie area of Prince George’s.
