I’m not sure when this ‘trend’ of windowless rooms started exactly, but - frankly - it must stop. Glancing out of that hotel window often provides a first glimpse of a new destination, especially if you’ve landed in darkness the evening before. However, I’ve yet to find a hotel room made better by not having a window. At a capsule hotel in Tokyo recently – essentially a glorified coffin with a TV and a curtain – I’ve never woken feeling more groggy or depressed. OK, this may have been taking things to extremes (and I certainly knew in advance what to expect, and was simply curious about a one-off ‘capsule hotel’ experience).
