The standards and ethics in education (including research) at all levels in India have been declining. There is no meritocracy among faculty in Indian education. The Indian Space Research Organisation is one of the great research organizations and compares with the world's best. Governance, management, academic leadership, large-scale faculty development, and the recruitment of high quality faculty are neglected. There is also the major issue of governance of teaching and research institutions.
