Cache of posters from 30s and 40s, including one for John Ford’s Stagecoach, were kept under carpet of Penarth house for three decadesA stash of beautiful cinema posters dating from the 1930s and 40s that were used as a makeshift carpet underlay have sold at auction for £72,000. The star poster in the sale was for the 1939 classic John Ford western Stagecoach, Wayne’s breakthrough film. Ben Rogers Jones of the auction house Rogers Jones & Co of Penarth said: “A lot of the film poster collections we see are 1960s and onwards. “We had a lot of interest and all the posters sold, mostly to the US,” said Rogers Jones. It wasn’t just the sheer volume of them that was impressive, but the condition was fantastic considering their age,” said Rogers Jones.
