Clark County creates Little Ethiopia cultural districtThe Clark County Commission today established its first cultural district, with a 6-0 vote creating a Little Ethiopia district. Efforts to create the district began in August 2019, when members of Southern Nevada’s Ethiopian community requested an official neighborhood designation. The commission in response developed the cultural district designation policy, which provides guidance on such districts to strengthen areas representing unique cultural heritages. Earlier this year, the Ethiopian community drafted an updated application for the neighborhood designation and presented it to the Spring Valley and Paradise town advisory boards. During a meeting in May, the commission directed staff to draft an ordinance to establish Little Ethiopia.
