Clarity on Leaving and Junior Cert exams expected by end of weekexams

The State Examinations Commission (SEC) is expected to offer some clarity on planning for the Leaving Cert and Junior Cycle exams in light of the coronavirus crisis, before the weekend. The possibility of emergency public health measures extending into the summer has raised concerns about the fate of the State exams. Already the closure of schools has ensured disruption of the orals and practicals for the State exams, which were due to start next Monday. And, with school closures expected to extend until April 20, at the earliest, it will be a challenge to reorganise them, if it’s possible at all. If the logistics of holding the written exams become too problematic, priority will be given to the Leaving Cert, with almost 47,000 candidates depending on their results for college entry.
