Clamps stay for now due to hidden coronavirus carriers

The Secretary for Health, Sophia Chan Siu-chee said today that the government would not confirm how many people had tested positive in the mass coronavirus testing program until the results had been double checked. Speaking on an RTHK program, Chan said testing had been completed on 49,000 samples by Thursday morning. She said that, because of the large numbers involved, she could not say whether any of the people had tested positive, adding that the Centre for Health Protection would announce any positive tests once they had been verified. As of 8:00pm on Wednesday, some 278,000 people had given samples in the first two days of testing. Chan said the fact that invisible carriers and infection chains in the community meant the government could not lift its ban on gatherings of more than two people.
