Five winners of the 2019 Vine Awards were announced at a gala luncheon in Toronto Wednesday, with winners each receiving $10,000. The winners encompassed categories in fiction, poetry, children’s, non-fiction, and history. There were three finalists in each category, selected from 84 entries by a jury comprised of poet Ayesha Chatterjee, children’s author Melanie J. Fishbane, and author Eric Beck Rubin. Poetry: Linda Frank, “Divided” (Wolsak and Wynn Publishers) The jury said that “Divided uses the power of poetry to analyse the relationship between humankind and nature in often devastatingly clear language. The Vine Awards honour exceptional Canadian Jewish writers and Canadian authors exploring Jewish subjects.
