“We are a very high-performing organisation,” a senior executive of Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) told the Dáil’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in December. “We punch well above our weight.”The executive was speaking about the organisation’s work in fisheries and environmental protection. The case highlighted concerns about allegations made under protected disclosures being “weaponised” and revealed allegations about the actions of politicians in relation to such claims. The department told the PAC in January an independent report on complaints by a whistleblower had been referred to the Garda Commissioner. O’Donnell is claiming he was unfairly dismissed by IFI and penalised for making protected disclosures.
