North Corporation Mayor Sanjeev Nayyar had set aside a budget of Rs 10 crore for dog sterilisation, which is still lying unused. Containing stray population is not a small job. Similarly, the East Corporation also does not have a dog census and is dependent on two NGOs to sterilise its stray population. So far, only the South Corporation has come up with a census of over 1.89 lakh stray dogs last year. In two years, the stray population will come under total control," a South Corporation spokesperson said.
