NAPLES - Climate change and the health of the ecosystem are the main topics on the big screen this summer in Sicily, where on Monday the three finalists were announced for the IFAD/COPEAM Award at the Sicilymovie film festival in Agrigento. Screenings at the film festival include short films, documentaries, video clips and short animations of all types. The finalists are: "Wrapped in Plastic", directed by Rocco Muraro, a short documentary which exposes the issue of plastic waste generated by intensive agricultural practices in southern Spain; "Beyond the Glaciers" directed by David Rodriguez Muñoz, a short film from Kazakhstan that analyses the impact of climate change and human activity on fishing communities on the Aral Sea; and "Los ojos de la Tierra" directed by Marcos Altuve, which highlights how tortoises are an indicator for ecosystem health in Morocco. The award was created by the UN's International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) with the Union of Mediterranean Broadcasters (COPEAM), to celebrate the best short documentary films that focus on food security and issues that affect rural communities in the Mediterranean and Near East, North Africa, Europe and Central Asia regions.
