Churning up the track

Street Stocks drivers (from left) Jesse Helm, of Dunedin, A J White, of Balclutha, and Lachlann Maclean, of Dunedin, rip up the track during a street stocks race at Beachlands Speedway on Saturday evening. Promoter Ricky Boulton said an "average-to-good" crowd turned up on what was the "first time we’ve had a summer’s day this summer". The event included a Canterbury versus Otago demolition teams race with vehicles painted in the colours of their province. Team races were a "kill or be killed" environment, run over 12 to 15 laps, in which cars acted as runners or blockers "and those that can preserve their car and take the hits and stop the opposition" won. "I’m pleased to report we won," Mr Boulton said.
