The Metropolitan Police made the arrest during an Extinction Rebellion demonstration in Parliament Square, central London. Pictures shared on social media appeared to show graffiti had been sprayed on the statue branding the former prime minister a "racist". Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said the graffiti would be removed from the Winston Churchill statue as soon as possible. Officers in Parliament Square are also working to remove a road blockage put up by the group. Officers removed the D-locks from their necks and took the women to police stations in four separate vans as supporters cheered the protesters on from Parliament Square.
