KUCHING: Anglican Bishop of Sarawak and Brunei Rev Danald Jute is calling for native customary rights (NCR) land to be respected. “We are deeply concerned with recent Federal Court decisions. “To the indigenous people, land is as sacred as life and to lose their NCR land is like losing life,” Rev Danald said in a statement. A pemakai menoa and pulau galau committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has been formed. On Monday, Sarawak’s indigenous communities handed over a memorandum to amend the Land Code to protect NCR to state security personnel at the State Legislative Assembly here.
