Southwark council has received permission to bury 700 people in an area of Camberwell Old Cemetery, south London, which includes the graves of 48 soldiers who served in the First and Second World Wars. Some of the ground is consecrated, which is why the Church of England court had to authorise the plans. The council and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, which advised on the plans, said it would allow residents to be buried in the borough and that they would not inter anyone directly on top of a war grave, according to The Daily Telegraph.
