As many as 80 people have contacted Christ’s College to share their experiences of bullying and abuse. That was the reality for generations of pupils at Christchurch’s Christ’s College under an archaic system called “fagging”, which was still allowed until the mid-1980s. Stories of bullying and abuse at the private school have emerged following The Royal Commission into Abuse in Care. One former student who attended Christ’s College in the late 1970s and early 1980s said even at the time people would be “disgusted” when he told them about fagging. The school has issued an apology to former students who faced abuse but may never come forward.
