The Oscar winner died peacefully at his home in Connecticut, USA on February 5 with his wife Elaine Taylor by his side. His wife Elaine Taylor said the cause of his death was a "blow to the head as a result of a fall", according to the New York Times. He is survived by Elaine and his only child, actress Amanda Plummer, from his first marriage to actress Tammy Grimes. His first marriage was to actress Tammy Grimes from 1956 to 1960, with whom he had his only child, actress Amanda Plummer. Finally, he married his third wife and 'best friend' in actress Elaine Taylor in 1970 and they remained married for the next fifty years until his death.
