The centre-back, 35 on Friday, had been told he was free to leave Hearts by recently-appointed boss Daniel Stendel. Berra is one of three deadline-day defensive signings made by James McPake, with full-backs Christie Elliott and Tom Field also arriving. An academy graduate at Brentford, he had loan stints at Bradford City and Cheltenham Town and made 21 first-team outings. "Danny will remain a St Mirren player," he told BBC Scotland.
