The province's biggest race day of the year will cost the Southland Racing Club more than $500,000. President Sean Bellew expects 6000 people at Ascot Park, Invercargill, for Christmas at the Races on Saturday. Birchwood trainer Steve Blair-Edie and jockey Amless Bohorun fondly remember last year's Christmas meeting for the three wins they each had. Other horses in form on the programme include Hazelnut (race two) and Hot Tap (race three). "They can get affected by the weather ... when the wind comes in, we have to react to it," Hill said.
