Christians in Sabah celebrate holy week with mixed feelings amid MCO

KOTA KINABALU: Christian families in Sabah, similar to those around the globe, are celebrating an unusual holy week which culminated on Easter today amid restricted movement to contain the spread of Covid-19. Jenne Lajiun from Penampan said she was sad that the holy week masses- Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday- could only be streamed online instead of the faithful going to church. “I followed the online masses in Kuching via Youtube, I think even the priest was sad that the celebration could only be done virtually. “The priest had said that usually during the holy week, the church would be full but this year they were by themselves,” said the mother of three. For Joshua Chong, 30, he did not mind not being able to observe the holy week in its usual traditional manner.
