Two Christchurch teenagers dug deep to earn the top spot as the best young farmers in the country. St Bede’s College students Jack Coakley and Mac Williams, both 17, were crowned winners of the Junior Young Farmer of the Year award at the competition's grand final. At the online final on Friday, they gave a five-minute speech on carbon emissions and water quality. Three South Island Junior Young Farmer of the Year regional finals, along with the grand final, were forced to either be cancelled or moved online due to Government restrictions around events.
