Christchurch businessman, 70, admits violation of teenage girl

A 70-year-old man has begun his "inevitable" jail term straight way after admitting sex abuse charges involving a 14-year-old girl. Martin Leslie O'Neil, a Christchurch businessman, admitted charges of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection, making an objectionable video involving him and the girl, and a representative charge of several indecent acts on the girl in the Christchurch District Court on Tuesday. The court was told the victim wanted the man's name reported, and defence counsel Tony Garrett said he made no application for suppression. The father handed the camera's memory card to the police and the girl was then interviewed. She told of a series of indecencies by O'Neil with threats that she should not tell her father.
