The Big Bargain Book Sale hosts hundreds of bookworms at Christchurch's Pioneer Stadium each year. (File photo)Bookworms have coronavirus to thank for a second delay to a popular Christchurch book sale this year. The Big Bargain Book Sale was due to be held on August 28 and 29 at Pioneer Stadium, but is being postponed again due to the change in Covid-19 alert levels. It would be virtually impossible to ensure social distancing at the sale, Christchurch City Council head of libraries and information Carolyn Robertson said. The book sale has now been rescheduled for October 16 and 17, by which time the council hopes the city will be back in alert level 1.
