It’s Ontario’s and Quebec’s premiers and health ministers, past even more so than present, who should wear that shame. Where the feds continue to drop the ball, however, is in refusing to approve new and faster testing methods. It was just three weeks ago that Health Canada publicly expressed any willingness even to consider approving rapid “at-home” tests — i.e., any that aren’t administered by a trained health-care professional and processed in a lab. But this willingness hasn’t translated into any serious action. That’s the pointy end of the rapid-testing stick in Canada thus far, and it is not hugely encouraging.
