A remarkable amount of social media content concerns social media companies’ failure to ban Bad People, or their banning the Wrong People, or being inconsistent as to whom they ban. First of all, though many Canadians clearly believe otherwise, very-nearly-unfettered free speech isn’t just an American (by which most people mean “bad”) idea. What’s going on on social media isn’t some unanticipated perversion or abuse of free speech. It is free speech. As a Facebook or Twitter customer — or indeed, a National Post subscriber — you are free to complain to management.
