The Primary Court sentenced Mr Chonsawat to four years in jail, and Mr Pitichat to six years. Former politician Chonsawat Asavahame will walk free on Sunday after serving an 18-month-jail term for his involvement in election fraud in Samut Prakan. The Appeals Court decided to commute their penalties to 18 months for Mr Chonsawat and four years for Mr Pitichat. In 2006, prosecutors indicted Mr Chonsawat, then Samut Prakan mayor, and Pitichat Traisurat, who was Samut Prakan municipal clerk, on charges of dereliction of duty. His family have arranged to meet him at Samut Prakan central prison at 5am, three hours before the poll on the draft charter opens, a Corrections Department source said.
