Entire Chittoor town and surrounding villages are gearing up for the famous Ganga Jatara, scheduled to commence from May 14. Unlike regular ‘jataras’ elsewhere in the district, Chittoor jatara has a unique feature. After ‘jatara’, the idol would be immersed in the nearby tank. Highlight is that thousands of people from all over Chittoor district and neighbouring States of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka reach Chittoor town to take part in the ‘jatara’ on the invitation of their relatives here. Chittoor Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil instructed the local police to make elaborate security arrangements for the mass event.
