Last year, the city corporation introduced a new rule, according to which taxes will assessed on the basis of rent of an establishment. Speaking at a programme on Friday, Mayor Nasir once again made it clear he was adamant on the issue. “Those who are wealthy and capable must pay holding tax because that brings funds to the city corporation to serve the people,” he said. The CCC has already started the process to assess holding taxes in line with the new rule. Mayor Nasir, whose electoral pledges included not raising the taxes, now says that it's the government's call and he is only complying with local government ministry's ordinance.
