High Court judge Collin Sequerah sentenced 28-year-old Luo Dan to death after finding that the prosecution had proven its case. He concluded that the total weight of the drugs and the manner it was placed in the luggage constituted trafficking. Luo Dan was calm after the sentence was delivered but broke down in tears while speaking on the phone after she was allowed to call home. Fernandez also said that Luo, who was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, would appeal the decision. Authorities had found the drugs hidden in the soles of shoes packed in the luggage that Luo Dan was carrying.
