Months later in the college’s well-equipped studio, he did the final oiling on a steam-bent, ebonized wood chair he called “Rhythmic Serenity.”Symbolizing tranquility and reflecting his Chinese heritage, the contemporary piece won the best-in-show award at the graduates’ exhibition. But like making his chair, chiseling a fulfilling career has been a long, painstaking process.
