The identity of a Chinese-Australian billionaire political donor allegedly linked to the bribery of the late UN president, has been revealed as Chau Chak Wing in federal parliament. Mr Hastie told parliament Dr Chau had undertaken defamation proceedings against ABC and Fairfax. Defamation cases had a "chilling effect" on a free press, Mr Hastie said. Mr Hastie maintained it was in the national interest to name Dr Chau. Dr Chau has not been charged in the US, he said.
