VANCOUVER—Residents of a social housing building in Vancouver’s Chinatown — many of them seniors and people with disabilities — are celebrating this weekend. Now, the Star has learned the 86-unit building’s tenants have formed their first tenants’ association as a permanent voice for their concerns. “The elevator is temporarily repaired right now, it’s finally usable,” Nick Yung, a volunteer with the Chinese Tenants Organization, told the Star in an interview Saturday. Queenie Choo revealed that a 2015 report by elevator company Otis Canada was sent to BC Housing, the provincial housing provider. to step in and improve how Solheim Place is managed by its staff.
