In a virtual roundtable interview on Saturday with The Manila Times, Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago Sta. Romana said they were in constant communication with the Sinovac Biotic Ltd. and the Chinese National Pharmaceutical Group Co. Ltd. (Sinopharma, developers of Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines, for possible clinical trials in the country. “Our embassy helps a lot to facilitate Sinovac and Sinopharm and the other Chinese companies that are engaged in vaccine development. Sinovac has conducted trials in Brazil and the Middle East, and is applying for trials in Indonesia and Turkey. Romana said that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s pledge to make the vaccines accessible to the international community still stands, with Asean, including the Philippines, getting priority.
