China is Cambodia’s biggest foreign donor. The European Union and the United States withdrew their backing for the election after a court dissolved the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) in November at the government’s request. Hang Puthea, spokesperson for the National Election Commission, said China would provide 30 different types of equipment. In a document on Wednesday, the NEC said China pledged the equipment on Tuesday, saying it would provide laptops, computers and voting booths, among other items. The European Union and Japan have been the biggest donors to Cambodia’s election commission.
